What to Expect the Second Year PDF Free Download

What to Expect the Second Year: From 12 to 24 Months (What to Expect (Workman Publishing)) Hardcover – April 5, 2011
Author: Visit ‘s Heidi Murkoff Page ID: 0761163646

From Publishers Weekly

Popular parenting guru Murkoff offers a sequel to her What to Expect in the First Year in this all-inclusive look at the toddler from 12 to 24 months. In 15 chapters the authors cover feeding, sleeping, learning, playing, health and safety, injuries and developmental disorders, discipline, and other issues with a meaty center section on behavior. The text opens with the stunning array of developmental milestones that characterize this action-packed period in a child’s life, beginning at 12 to 13 months, when a toddler says two words and cruises from place to place while holding on to furniture, to 24 months when he or she can run, kick a ball, and use 50 words or more. While noting that there’s a “wide range of normal,” Murkoff also warns parents to “follow your gut” and check with your pediatrician if anything seems behind schedule. Murkoff covers practical matters like the importance of parents learning CPR, frequently citing professional guidelines (i.e., experts advise no TV for kids under two). She also addresses less critical topics, such as how to get a blob of oatmeal out of a toddler’s hair or deal with a youngster’s “wardrobe monotony.” Just as expected, Murkoff offers sound advice and reassurance that will help parent and toddler stay grounded during this whirlwind period of growth and change. About the Author

It all started with a baby…and a book. Heidi Murkoff conceived the idea for What to Expect When You're Expecting during her first pregnancy, when she couldn’t find answers to her questions or reassurance for her worries in the books she’d turned to for much-needed advice. Determined to write a guide that would help other expectant parents sleep better at night, Heidi delivered the proposal for What to Expect When You’re Expecting just hours before delivering her daughter, Emma.

Dubbed the “pregnancy bible”, the iconic New York Times bestseller is now in its all-new fourth edition, with over 18.5 million copies in print, and according to USA Today, is read by 93 percent of women who read a pregnancy book. Other titles in the series include Eating Well When You’re Expecting, What to Expect the First Year, What to Expect Before You’re Expecting (a complete preconception plan), and the newest member of the What to Expect family: What to Expect the Second Year, the must-have guide for parents of toddlers. The What to Expect books have sold more than 34 million copies in the US alone, and are published in over 30 languages.

In 2005, Heidi expanded the What to Expect (WTE) brand online with WhatToExpect.com – the interactive, state-of-the-internet companion to the WTE books, and home to a vibrant, vast, yet close-knit community of 3 million parents. In 2009, WTE went mobile with the WTE Pregnancy Tracker (the most popular pregnancy app in the world), the WTE Fertility Tracker, the WTE Baby Name Finder, and the WTE First Year Tracker.
Heidi’s passionate commitment to moms and babies led to the creation of the What to Expect Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping underserved families expect healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries, and healthy, happy babies. With a beautiful, culturally appropriate low-literac

This book is very informative, however that chapters are not designated by age (month). In this book they are by categories. The information is great, but I miss reading about each month’s development, etc.

When I became a mom for the first time I can remember being glued to What to Expect the First Year (What to Expect (Workman Publishing)). In fact I have had the same copy of this book for more than seven years now and find myself peeking at it every now and then too look for advise as my children went on in life. Now I am thrilled at the release of What to Expect the Second Year: From 12 to 24 Months (What to Expect (Workman Publishing)). Maybe this is because of my Elliot just turning one a few days ago and maybe it is because finally my needs for information as they age have been meet by author Heidi Murkoff.

One of my biggest issues that began when my son made the transition from bottle to solids was his eating habits. For the first week it was all eggs, cheerios and applesauce it seemed. It was then and even now very picky and left much on his plate ever meal. In a chapter I learned how to add a sippy cup and some self feeding tips that have helped us get over the dietary issues and on to a well feed little man again.

I have learned how to handle early temper tantrums with grace and compassion and found tips on safety proofing that even this momma of many would have overlooked. Most importantly I have found ways to encourage positive behaviors and ways to mold a growing mind.

I have not read this book completely as of today but use it regularly with my many questions (thank goodness for the index). I am sure given another month I will have touched on every subject What to Expect the Second Year contains. I welcome it with open arms and even carry this with me wherever we go.

Let me say this first – I am a huge fan of What to Expect When You’re Expecting and WTE First Year books. I have told dozens of people they should purchase them so I was really excited to get this for my son’s newest year. With the other two, there literally was never a topic I wanted to know about that wasn’t discussed. Not the case with Second Year.

Other than skimming the pages and reading general Second Year info, I have gone to this book three times for specific questions regarding my son. All three were big strike-outs. In case you were wondering the three issues were hand, foot and mouth disease, impact of death of a close family member, and excessive drooling with no other medical problem.

All in all, this book has lots of great information and is probably worth buying. Just don’t expect it to be a go-to book as in-depth and comprehensive as the earlier books. Who knows – maybe we are just a bit too far from norm!

I Am Spock – June 23, 2015

I Am Spock Paperback – June 23, 2015
Author: Leonard Nimoy ID: 0316388378

About the Author

An internationally known stage, film and television actor, Leonard Nimoy directed several major motion pictures, including The Good Mother, Three Men and a Baby, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Best remembered for his role as Mr. Spock of the Star Trek series, Nimoy is also the author of I Am Not Spock.

Paperback: 352 pagesPublisher: Hachette Books; Reprint edition (June 23, 2015)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 0316388378ISBN-13: 978-0316388375 Product Dimensions: 6 x 1 x 9 inches Shipping Weight: 12.8 ounces (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #50,059 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #46 in Books > Biographies & Memoirs > Historical > Europe > Russia #97 in Books > History > Asia > Russia #589 in Books > Biographies & Memoirs > Arts & Literature > Actors & Entertainers

It made me very sad to read this book because of the passing of one of my heroes growing up, but it was a great and wonderful book. Reading about the man who made Spock was very wonderful and just so sad :(

I love reading memoirs about my favorite actors and actresses. Finding out all of these little tidbits that you never knew about them.

The ongoing dialog between Spock and Leonard throughout the book is classic. He would have these conversations between him and Spock. They were quite comical and I enjoyed them immensely.

Leonard Nimoy was a man of many talents. He not only starred in a lot of films and plays, he was a great director.

I think anyone that loves the Star Trek franchise, especially Spock, will love this book. I highly recommend!

Lived Long and Prospered!!!!!

RIP ~ Leonard Nimoy

MY REVIEWS:
http://ift.tt/1rPUEK3
http://ift.tt/1TWbaB9

I laughed and cried and oh man, it was a fast, fun read because I wanted to know every little thing. I am sad that the book ended and sad that he cannot continue with another book (but his son is continuing his legacy with a movie). This book is for every fan of Star Trek, every writer or creative person to see what goes on behind the scenes in creating a project, and anyone wanting to know the trials and "tribble" -ations of one man’s rather humble life. What a creative genius in his own right with is photography and poetry and such. A definite must read.

I have purchased this book and found it very interesting by what it said and by what was not said. I enjoyed Spock and found a copy of "I am not Spock" at the library to read. This book borrows a lot from the first, from anecdotes to ideas expressed.
Since I had no idea of Leonard’s other works I have now watched some of the movies he has been in and read some of his poems. I will miss Spock and Leonard. Rest in Peace.

As a fruit and cheese lover I am in love with this Mediterranean diet! This book has a great 7 day meal plan that is easy to follow and features some great meals. The author has provided a breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner meal plan to help you lose weight while improving your health. The author also provides a list of substitute ingredients, which I loved and found very beneficial.

This book really does give you all the necessary information you needed to understand how to successfully apply the Mediterranean diet to your life. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the Mediterranean diet and looking to try out some great tasting recipes.

This book is a well-written, comprehensive overview of the Mediterranean diet. The history of this style of eating is covered, including the pleasure of taking the time to enjoy a meal with others, and the science behind it. The wide variety of foods that are “allowed” is great. I’m so glad to hear healthy eating is possible while still including moderate amounts of cheese, pasta and bread in your diet. I also really appreciated all the suggestion to flavor foods with traditional herbs and spices instead of so much salt.

There are lots of good information in this book. I didn’t know anything and I learned some good ideas from this book. The recipes are interesting. Looks simple enough. This is a good introductory book.

I have to say that this is likely the weirdest bed-time reading I have ever done, and furthermore have to take issue with providing a star rating which says that I like or love it 😉 It is, however, an important historical document and part of our legacy. Douglas Brinkley and Luke Nichter have performed a great service by transcribing, editing and sometimes making intelligible Nixon’s secret tapes. This installment brings us to the Watergate era, the time after the break in was revealed. It captures a critical time during the Nixon presidency and provides insights beyond what was revealed in headlined stories at the time (though I was too young to read or make much sense of the then).

I have to confess to not making it all the way through the nearly 900 pages of transcript, but did find much that was simultaneously revealing and disturbing both in terms of content, and Nixon’s thought process.

While I can hardly describe this as enjoyable (or light) reading, it is significant and a unique, singular primary source. Never before, and likely never again will this type of material be available. You can, of course, go to the Nixon library and review unedited transcripts, listen to the tapes, but when you consider that the edited version is 900 pages, you might believe as I do that these two men have done us a great service by providing highlights, context, commentary.

My 4 star rating is not really accurate. It reflects my inability to enjoy such material. As a historical referent I really should give it five stars, but given that the author/ protagonist is Richard Nixon, have a difficult time endorsing the statement "I love it". 😉 . Few will find this enjoyable reading, but it is impossible to deny it’s importance or consequence.

The Birds of Panama

The Birds of Panama: A Field Guide (Zona Tropical Publications) Paperback – December 16, 2010
Author: George R. Angehr ID: 0801476747

Review

“Angehr and Dean have created an accurate, portable guide that will prove very useful to birders and casual observers wishing to savor the avian diversity of Panama.”―Choice (August 2011)

About the Author

Robert Dean is an avid birder and natural history illustrator.

Series: Zona Tropical PublicationsPaperback: 488 pagesPublisher: Comstock Publishing Associates; 1 edition (December 16, 2010)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 0801476747ISBN-13: 978-0801476747 Product Dimensions: 1.2 x 5.5 x 8.5 inches Shipping Weight: 1.8 pounds (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #31,191 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #15 in Books > Science & Math > Biological Sciences > Animals > Birds & Birdwatching > Field Guides #19 in Books > Science & Math > Nature & Ecology > Field Guides #133 in Books > Science & Math > Nature & Ecology > Fauna
This new field guide to the birds of Panama follows the earlier book for Costa Rica in its pattern. Thus, hopes were high from the beginning when this book was announced. And the authors and publishers certainly kept their standards. Mostly, the illustrations from that Costa Rica book have been retained where appropriate, but they have often been enlarged, reduced , sometimes mirrored or tilted to some extent.

So finally, there is a fine birding guide for Panama, with range maps and today’s customary set-up with the text, range maps and plates all on the same double-page spread. Compared to the Costa Rica volume, the printing of the plates is stronger. No more pale looking birds. Instead, there may be a few that got a bit too much ink. But overall the plates look more accurate. In particular, cotingas and honeycreepers now seem to have their correct colors.

And it’s only here that one can fully appreciate the very high quality of the artwork done by Robert Dean. I think his work is at least comparable to the one by Guy Tudor, long considered the one to compare all others with when it comes to neotropical field guide illustrations. For Central America, the Dean artwork as printed in the Panama book is definitely the new standard.

There are many other improvements compared to the Costa Rica volume. Thus, range maps are now color coded, immediately providing information on the status of a species in Panama, like breeding or migrant bird.

The most critical identification characters are highlighted in bold face, a feature already found in the Costa Rica book. However, this feature has been expanded. And the text gives much more info on how to distinguish similar species from each other.
THE BASICS: softcover, 2010, 456pp; illustrates with quality artwork all 950+ species found in Panama except for about 30 of the extreme vagrants; male and female plumages are shown plus relevant immatures; most of the birds are not shown in flight; paragraph on each bird focuses on description and identification notes plus similar species; brief notes on habitat and vocalizations given; a 5-color range map is given for each bird

THE REVIEW: This book now easily moves into the top position as the best available book for birding in Panama. This is due to three things. One, this book illustrates nearly every bird known from the country. Two, a detailed range map accompanies each bird. And, three, this book is made in a true field guide format, being just a half-inch taller and quarter-inch wider than the National Geographic’s popular field guide for North America.

Except for about 30 species with only a couple of records in Panama, all 950+ species are illustrated with quality artwork. These illustrations are done by the same illustrator responsible for the sister guide to Costa Rica. As a plus, the color reproduction in this Panama guide is much better with richer, bolder hues. The tanagers, warblers, and honeycreepers now look brilliant. Nearly all the birds are of a good size in the plate to help show color and feather patterns for better identification. Only the seed-finches seem to be on the small side, almost as if the plate was reduced just a tad too much before printing.

My only critique about the layout of the drawings is relatively few birds are shown in flight. The few groups flying are the non-passerines such as the swifts, parrots, nighthawks, larids, raptors, and pelagics. For the passerines, the only group shown in flight is the swallows.

Final Fantasy Type 0-HD: Prima Official Game Guide – Deluxe Edition, March 17, 2015

Final Fantasy Type 0-HD: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) Hardcover – Deluxe Edition, March 17, 2015
Author: Garitt Rocha ID: 110189847X

Series: Prima Official Game GuidesHardcover: 336 pagesPublisher: Prima Games; Har/Psc edition (March 17, 2015)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 110189847XISBN-13: 978-1101898475 Product Dimensions: 8.3 x 0.8 x 11.2 inches Shipping Weight: 2.3 pounds (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #27,234 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #38 in Books > Humor & Entertainment > Puzzles & Games > Reference #47 in Books > Computers & Technology > Games & Strategy Guides > Strategy Guides #67 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Gaming

I understand that many people might make the argument that they don’t need a guide book, but I disagree with that thought most of the time. Guide books are especially helpful for RPGs, but more importantly they help you get everything out of the game, and this Final Fantasy Type 0 guide is no different. Not only does this limited edition hardcover looks glossy and very collectible, but it’s also filled with very useful tips and information that will help you throughout the game. Another bonus is that this guide comes with a special lithograph that I wasn’t expecting.
What’s inside the book:
Class Zero: Offers stats, growth by level, abilities, and effects.
Walkthrough: Quest maps could be a little more detail, but they’re not that bad. Other than that you can expect to find other useful information like S-Rank Requirements, boss tips, and strategy tips.
Weapons and Accessories: Offers a list of weapons, accessories, items, and their locations.
Side Quests: If you’re interested in doing some side quests then you might find this information helpful. In this section the book list’s the side quest’s location, who offers it, the task, the reward, and a little note about the quest.
Chocobo Breeding
Phantoma
Eidolons
Bestiary: Shows you complete details on each enemy you will face, including stats, resistances, and much more.
Bonus E-Guide is also included, which is always a nice addition.

Prima has always made BEAUTIFUL guides, specially with Final Fantasy franchise.
I read the guide and checked all lists and character information and it is VERY good.
Maps are NICE, and instructions on how to find all collectibles too.
I always buy game guides for assistance or guidance on finding all secrets and checking maps and bestiary information.
This guide has EVERYTHING. :)

VERY GOOD GUIDE!
HIGH quality materials.

One of the better hardcover prima game guides out there. It is perfect for this type of mission based game. One weakness though is the lack of a good integration of suggesting when to go to the extra dungeons available throughout the story. They are just tucked at the end in the side quest section, when there are plenty of good times to try to go to them on the first playthrough. Otherwise the guide is fantastic to follow word for word through the game. The included maps and tips for how to do some of the special orders are phenomenal and the tips and tricks for many bosses are vital for success. Lastly the final chapter of the game the guide made it exceptionally easy to be prepared for all the things in that chapter.

I loved how the writers avoided putting major spoilers in the guide so that you couldnt happen upon them by reading it.

Quality wise it has maps (though one or two of them were orientated differently than the game was), no typos or image issues whatsoever. Has lots of charts and tables with a table of contents that is accurate and easy to leaf through. Its also easy to use to mark with using a pencil (which is helpful for a second or third playthrough to get full completion).
